Hi Zil,
Glad you and your family busted out.
Welcome
i have been a loooong time lurker on this board.
i want to get in on the action now!!
i was a jw for nearly 25 years.
Hi Zil,
Glad you and your family busted out.
Welcome
there are so many new posters here now, i think this topic should be revisited.
i believe the most ridiculous belief that witnesses have is a "slave class" made up of 144,000 give spiritual "food at the proper time".
why can't jws see thru this??
First off they're not faithful. They betray the Bible, their followers and even their own teachings at times.
They're not discreet. Not only have they said many stupid things they were dumb enough to put them in writing.
Slave? Now there's a joke. Since when do slaves run the show?
I think "Unreliable Foolish Bully Class" would be a little more accurate. But then who would listen to them?
with all the ridiculous hype amongst the dubs about how this new tract is going to help bring about "the end", i thought it would be beneficial to highlight how often they've been crying that the sky is falling in the last 1/2 century:.
***w50 2/15 p. 54" stick to your work"*** now is the time to live and work as christians, especially now, for the final end is near.
*** the time of the end is near!
Ok all of this is fine but does anybody have any proof that they have claimed the end was near before? Just kidding.
Great thread. Lots of quotes and some good laughs.
I saw witnesses going through my neighborhood yesterday. They didn't seem to be showing much urgency. They were just wandering around looking bored.
my jw roommate and i were watching boston legal the other night and one case was about someone being fired for their religious beliefs.
when one of the lawyers was talking to the jury, he mentioned many religions and the odd, quirky things about them.
he did mention that if you were a jehovah's witness you couldn't buy girl scout cookies.
I think the scripture the witness use in this case is: "Be no part of the world unless it tastes good."
after lady liberty gave a link to the new re-examine site, i found some details that are so disturbing its boggling my mind.. first, the original presidents were voted in, but not one vote per person but for every $10.00 contributed you received a vote.
so those already in power and with much money had tremendous sway as to who got in and who didn't.
this little scheme was not stopped until 1944.. so when rutherford was "elected by a unanimous vote" we can assume it was mainly of his own doing based on money contributed.
WTF?? Are you serious?! Holy crap, I never knew that....I knew they used to vote but I didn't realize it was based on bribery......geezus...Just when you think this religion can't shock you any further, they manage to surprise.
Almost exactly what I was thinking Mary. I thought I knew every stupid thing they said or did.
i've just finished making our christmas cake!.
it took nearly five hours to cook but it's a beauty.. it contained nearly 4 lb of mixed fruits.
12 eggs.
Your cake sounds wonderful Gill. My sister makes them almost every year. I think I should check to make sure is is going to do it this year. As far as getting lymphomas from eating bad things at Christmastime I don't think you will do yourself much harm other that gaining weight if that is about the only time you eat junk food. However I never heard the connection to lymphoma metioned before and it is something I definately need to look into for personal reasons. We use mostly olive and canola oil when we cook but who knows what you get when you eat out.
Anyway I'm glad your Christmas baking. Witnesses really miss out on a lot of fun.
i don't find it the least bit appealing to even think of living forever under the jehovah's rule because he is such an egocentric god.
always worrying if you make him mad.
Sure, it would be great. I mean what could be better than spending eternity under a guy who kills people for making fun of his name or kills them for smoking or not peddling his books and magazines. As long as you did everything you were told and were careful not to push any of his buttons you'd do just fine.
just got back from the special one day assembly and had to share this important info.
only two baptisms today; two girls about 15-16 out of 2,000 attendees.. i stumbled more than two with my anti-witnessing.
i posted un expose material in the bathrooms along with pre and post nov 1995 1914 generation belief.. incidentally, attendance was down almost 25% over last year as well.
Ironically the CO closed by saying that spiritualism is important, but SO IS SECULAR EDUCATION AND A CAREER! I kid you not; the man sung the praises of financial independance and having money to retire. He used those specific words.
WTF is going on here because this is the biggest flip-flop I have EVER heard! Could this be the announcement that was rumored to come out?
Either this guy is stepping out of line and using his head or the Watchtower has finally realized that if they want to grow as a cult they need to become more mainstream. You will only attract a small percentage of the population by crying the end is nigh and have them huddle around waiting for it. Educated people earn more so they have more money to donate. They also have more influence on society. The Watchtower will always be small potatoes unless they figure out a way to fit into society better. The trick is to figure a way get people educated and have them still believe the Watchtower has all the answers.
we are finally free, monday night we had our witch hunt.
they tried to get us to confess to anything.
we came to the jc thinking that we would be talking about the un material that we passed out.
Congratulations:
JimWood.....Jeff......Lady Liberty and your families.
Being kicked out of the Watchtower is like being kicked out of hell.
Enjoy your new found freedom.
so, i had just woke up, and i was sitting on my couch.
i'm wearing a pair of worn khaki shorts, and a tshirt.. there is a subtle knock on the door.
so, i walk over to the door.
So I wished them a happy Halloween, and a good day
Great job Richie. To bad you didn't have a bowl of Halloween candy by the door you could have put some in their book bags.
